A movie was playing on a TV channel while I busied and listened at the same time between my family living room and the kitchen. There was a guy in the movie. He was clearly angry with another guy who works in the same office with him whom he scolded. Evidently, he was the boss. That other guy was trying to excuse himself from a blame. According to him, he did not hold up because his effort was hampered by the “ambiguous rules” of the system they operated. “Don’t you realize that without rules nothing works in the universe?” the boss snarled. I instantly saw in his statement that void in every soul that is without God, and how ignorantly they walk in it. I saw that this guy clearly understood that complying with set rules within any given system is key for things to work well.
Being reminded as I meditated on it, that where there is the law there must also be a lawgiver, I thought, “So, why is it so difficult for the world to figure it out too, that because they are a part of a Solar System, and of a larger cosmic universe, there has to be a lawgiver who has set the rules by which things operate? That world peace is therefore not attainable without compliance to those rules, known and unknown. More so, that the lawgiver has to have inside knowledge about the design and working of the system anyway, to be able to proffer a law for it.
Why then are nations not investing off of their annual budgets in research spending to find out what these laws (including the spiritual) are about; to keep them, and hence achieve world peace? I was still in my thoughts, as I turned to meet the gaze of Darlington who together with his wife and children were visiting with us from London. He was at the table eating lunch. I noticed he had been trying to follow up on the movie, too. So, I said to him, “Do you see how that statement refutes completely the remaining views of any atheist still left out there?” Incidentally, Darlington had a problem believing the gospel. I am not sure if he saw the point of what I said, but I left it at that.
The actor’s statement, assuredly, mandates a Creator God who has set the bounds of operation (by laws and ordinances) of the created universe. I wonder why this is so hard to decipher, even for some of the best-known scientists. Though they have discovered to their own amazement the natural laws that keep the universe in place, they still cannot find God in it. Apparently, they’ve hardly considered to know that where there is the law, there is of necessity a lawgiver. As confused and lost as their governments remain, they’re gone about making and administering laws, and not at all mindful to see that there must needs be an administrator of the laws that guide and keep their universe in order.
God’s word rightly said that such are under a curse. For “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish hearts were darkened…And even as they did not want to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to reprobate minds, to do those things which are not convenient” (Romans 1:21, 28). “Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or else excusing one another” (Romans 2:15).
