The whole essence of creation was that man should worship God. In his fallen state, due to sin, man has gone his own way, disregarding his original call to worship. But wherever he goes, he is hunted by his appointment. He got lost in the thick of the darkness that followed his disobedience. In the search of daylight, he grapples with various gods whom he did not originally know – he has lost touch with his first love. In his delusion, he surrenders to just anything that could provide peace and joy, usually so temporal. He is addicted; so hooked he can’t get away. Tell him that he is entangled and needs help, and he would say, “I know what is good for me”. This is his new nature.
Like an adulterous woman, he has gone whoring with all manner of spirits and is in bondage to controlling pimps unaware. It may well be the spirit of alcoholism, or sexual lusts, or drug abuse, or lying, or murder, or abuse of self, or a combination of these – name it. Remind him of his gods, and he will quickly reply, “I am not religious”. This is the high point of his confusion. But what does the Bible say? “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servant to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness” [Rom. 6:16].
Are you one of those? You need to give it up now before it is too late. And you would say, “But I have tried to stop”. That may be true, but all hope is not yet lost. These kinds of entanglements always require a higher authority in order to break free, but that freedom comes with a price. That is the way the Author of life has made things to be; a higher spirit will undo a lower one. It may chance be by some form of treatment – psychological, social, physical, or spiritual. Whatever is ministered, it takes the power of a higher authority to cast out the offending spirit. And that higher authority pays some kind of price to do so; but God’s Spirit is all in all.
These false worshipers instinctively play out their call to worship, even though out of place. There is yet another group, which through traditions received by inheritance, or through social customs, affirms the existence of higher spiritual influences, and does consciously worship. The root of this behavior is apparent. The sons of men from the time of the falling away were aware of the God that their fathers worshiped. But sin had separated them from God. Following his alienation, man sought to make up for the void that ensued – he made for himself other gods. Man-made therapy provides only a partial solution and often creates even more severe circumstances. However, the time of this ignorance is now past: “but the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth”[John 4:23].
God did not leave the world without a witness of Himself [Isaiah 43:10]. As a proof of all that He purposed for mankind from the beginning, He chose the people of Israel to demonstrate His sovereignty to the rest of the world; until the fullness of time, when He would reveal His glory by His Son Jesus Christ. And when the time was fully come, He sent Jesus Christ as sacrifice for sin, “…that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” [John 3:16]. He led captivity captive, restoring dominion over all offending spirits to them that believe. By Him, we have the gift of salvation (freedom), by adoption into the family of God with the seal of that Holy Spirit of promise: the power to overcome evil in the world. Read more here
